Migrating Sandhill Cranes

Today we heard the sound of migrating Sandhill Cranes above us at home.  John and I decided that we should try and get a picture if we could of them today.  So off we went and drove out to the west side of the Flathead Valley driving on the gravel roads looking for a flock.  We came upon this small flock and stop to watch them and get ready to take their picture before they flew.  They took off as soon as I was ready and I was able to get this picture.

Fall wildlife pictures from the last three weekends

Early on September 15th saw this mule deer buck just looking to have is picture taken.  We were on the upper loop at the National Bison Range at Moiese Montana.  Southwest part of the Mission Valley.

Just before heading towards the top of the upper loop, happened to hear a noise in the grass as I was taking pictures of two larger mule deer.  I looked then exclaimed "it's a bear" and pivoted my camera into action and got this wonderful picture of a young black bear just above me.  John was running for the bear spray.  This bear just walked on past and then headed down the mountain behind us.

This was taken the following weekend on September 22 on the lower St Mary Lake shoreline just south of Babb Montana.  We had taken a drive over the Going to the Sun Road at Glacier National Park and headed to the Many Glacier area.  This was just a few days after the road was reopened to personal vehicles from being closed for the Howe fire near and along Lake McDonald.  Today they closed the road due to snow and ice.  You never know when this road will be open or closed to vehicles.

This picture was taken as we were heading down on the western side of the Going to the Sun Road and heading back home.  The leaves were almost at their peak.  Just a perfect day trip.

Today were headed back down to The National Bison Range for an early morning trip.  Caught this mule dear posing not to far from the vehicle.  What a wonderful place to visit.  If anyone is in the area, you need to stop.  The upper one way loop does close for the winter.

Moraine Lake in Banff National Park, Canada August 12th

John and I had a long weekend this month and traveled to Banff, AB Canada.  The skies were very smokey and hazy.  On Sunday morning a lighting storm was moving into the Moraine Lake area.  You could hear the thunder echoing around the mountains.  This is the front that brought lighting to Glacier National Park and started the Howe fire near and along Lake McDonald.  I want to stay at the lodge at Moraine Lake sometime in the near future.

Yesterday would of been my fathers 80th Birthday

Our internet service was down until today, yet  I still wanted to remember my fathers 80th Birthday which was yesterday March 12th.  I chose this picture of Lake McDonald at Glacier National Park because it is one of my favorite pictures and places.  I took this picture July 2006 early one morning.  It reminds me just how wonderful this world really is even with all the bad things that happen everyday.  I also wanted to share this as a reminder of my father William Paul Meyers and how wonderful he was.  Enjoy.   I miss you Dad.....
